Adrienne believes that painting is a way of communicating her passion and emotions about a particular subject. "The subject needs to stir me, evoke a reponse. I have to feel a connection. When that happens, then the painting process starts to flow easily."
That is why she trys to paint outdoors,(en plein air) as much as she can. Not an easy thing in New England, but all her inspirations start there. "After moving here 15 yrs ago, from New York City,
the beautiful coastal area's, rugged mountains ,open fields and marshes became a repeating inspiration for her.
Although the artist primarily paints in oil and pastels, she occassionally paints with watercolor and wax resistence, (similar to Batik) oil bars and others media's. No matter the media, her major focus is to paint the contrast of light and dark, color temperature, and most important, values. The artist paintings are loose, painterly and impressionistic. "Athough my paintings are realistic in nature, I seek to paint my interpertation and the feelings and emotions this particular subject evokes in me, rather than a copy of the it."
A frequent visitor to Monhegan Island, Maine ,where she has befriended many local artists, it is here that she feels a real connection to nature and the goings on of this small fishing village. " Monhegan's hold on me is very strong, and I have a yearning to go back yearly to try to understand and paint the light that is special to it. On an island where there is and have been many famous artist, I am in awe and inspired."
